Lookup files reference
On this page
The ranges, prefixes and MMDB records in each package hold IDs. The lookup files turn those IDs into places, polygons, names and ASN details. They ship in both the CSV and the MMDB ZIP of a package, as the same files, so this page serves both formats. Each package page links here.

IDs belong to the package. LocationId and ConfidenceAreaId are specific to each package and to each release: the same number means a different place in Compact and in Complete. Always join them to lookup files from the same package and the same download. GeoNames IDs are the exception: they're the same in every package.

One row per area polygon. The CSV and MMDB ZIPs of a package carry the same file. Most rows are confidence areas, referenced from Ranges-* and the geolocation MMDBs: a polygon of where the network serving an address operates. In Complete, Asns.csv also points here for each ASN's most active operational area: where that ASN operates most, as a polygon for the whole network rather than one IP range.
| Field | Type | Example | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
ConfidenceAreaId | int | 1742 | Area key. Referenced by Ranges-* and the Compact and Complete geolocation MMDBs (confidence area), and by Asns.csv (ASN operational area). Specific to the package and release. |
GeometryWkt | wkt | "MULTIPOLYGON (((144.671 -37.872, …)))" | Polygon or multipolygon in WKT. Always quoted, and can be very long. |
The size of an area isn't a confidence measure. Use ConfidenceScore for confidence in the location estimate.

Place names in 10 languages, compiled and maintained by BigDataCloud, keyed by GeoNames ID. One file per language: de, en, es, fr, it, ja, ko, pt, ru, zh. Every language file has the same IDs, and the files are the same in Compact and Complete and in the CSV and MMDB ZIPs. Each language falls back to the English name where a translation isn't published, so every file has a name for every ID.
| Field | Type | Example | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
GeonamesId | int | 2158177 | GeoNames ID. Joined from the *GeonamesId columns in Locations.csv. |
Name | string | "Melbourne" | Place name in the file's language, or the English name where it has none. Quoted. |

RegisteredCountry | string | AU | Registered country code. Supplied where the registry publishes it. |
TotalIpv4Addresses | int | 13386112 | IPv4 addresses. Same definition as the ASN statistics on bigdatacloud.com. |
TotalIpv4Prefixes | int | 299 | IPv4 prefixes. |
BogonIpv4Prefixes | int | 1 | Bogon IPv4 prefixes. |
TotalIpv6Prefixes | int | 2 | IPv6 prefixes. |
BogonIpv6Prefixes | int | 0 | Bogon IPv6 prefixes. |
ConfidenceAreaId | int | 2430 | The ASN's most active operational area: where this ASN operates most, as a polygon in ConfidenceAreas.csv. It shares that table with confidence areas but describes the whole network, not one IP range. Supplied where collected network information is statistically significant. |
ASN statistics are calculated with each release of each package.

Manifest.csv
Every ZIP has a Manifest.csv. The CSV ZIP and the MMDB ZIP of a package carry the same statistics and data timestamps, then one row per other file in that ZIP, including NOTICE.txt where present, with its byte count. Read the rows by Description, not by row position.
| Field | Type | Example | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
Description | string | Build Complete | Row name. |
Value | string | <build time, GMT> / <count> | A date and time (RFC 1123, GMT) on time rows, a count on total rows, and a byte count on file rows. |
Percentage | string | <percent> | Share of the total. Distribution rows only. |
RangeCount | int | <count> | Ranges in this bucket. Distribution rows only. |
IpCount | int | <count> | IP addresses in this bucket. Distribution rows only. |
Statistics
- Time rows
Build Complete, the release time, then the data timestamps for the package. A data-timestamp row appears when its source time is recorded. Each value is an RFC 1123 date and time in GMT, in quotes.- Compact:
IP Geolocation data timestamp. - Network:
BGP data timestamp. - Complete:
IP Geolocation data timestamp,BGP data timestampandThreat lists data timestamp.

- Compact:

Total IsKnownAsVpn,Total IsKnownAsProxyandTotal IsKnownAsTorServer.
- Compact:
- For IPv4 and IPv6 separately (Compact and Complete)
Total ranges,Total ips,Percentage basis, then distribution rows forCellular=…,HostingLikelihood=…andConfidence=…. IPv4 percentages are by address count; IPv6 percentages are by range count.
File rows
After the statistics, File: <name> (bytes) rows: one row per other file in that ZIP, including NOTICE.txt where present, with the file's byte count in Value, in file-name order (ordinal, case-sensitive, so capitals sort before lower case). In the MMDB ZIP that means the .mmdb files and the lookup files that ship with them; in the CSV ZIP, the CSV files. A manifest has no row for itself.

CSV conventions
These apply to every CSV file, in the CSV ZIPs and in the MMDB ZIPs alike.
| Convention | Detail |
|---|---|
| Container | One ZIP archive per package and format |
| Format | Comma-separated values, one header row per file |
| Encoding | UTF-8. Asns.csv, Asns-Basic.csv, Geonames-*.csv, BgpPrefixes-* and RirInetnums-* start with a UTF-8 byte-order mark (BOM), so use a BOM-aware reader (for example encoding="utf-8-sig" in Python). |
| Line endings | CRLF in every file, Manifest.csv and NOTICE.txt included. |
| Quoting | Text values may be double-quoted, and values containing commas always are (for example "Globe Telecom (GMCR,INC)"). A few registry Organisation values contain line breaks inside the quotes, so read the files with a CSV parser rather than line by line. |
| Supplied fields | Each row fills the fields that apply to it, and each field description says when it is supplied. |
| Booleans | True / False |
| IP addresses | IPv4 dotted-quad (139.130.4.0); IPv6 compressed text (2001:8000::); CIDR prefixes in BgpPrefixes-* (139.130.0.0/16). Range ends are inclusive. |
| Column order | Stable across releases, as listed on each package page |
MMDB conventions
| Convention | Detail |
|---|---|
| Readers | Any standard MMDB reader library |
| IP versions | Every file answers IPv4 and IPv6. In every database, BGP and RIR included, IPv4 lives at ::/96, so ::a.b.c.d and IPv4-mapped ::ffff:a.b.c.d addresses answer from the IPv4 data. |
| Keys | PascalCase, with the same names as the matching CSV columns (for example LocationId, Asn) |
| Types | IDs, scores and km values are integers; Is* keys are booleans; everything else is a string, including RegistryLastModified |
| Supplied keys | Each record carries the keys that apply to it, and each key description says when it is supplied. |
| No record | Lookups in private and reserved space return no record from the Compact and Complete geolocation databases. The BGP databases return a record with RegistryStatus Reserved. |
| Metadata | database_type is BigDataCloud-Compact, BigDataCloud-Complete, BigDataCloud-BgpPrefixes or BigDataCloud-RirInetnums. build_epoch is the same moment as Build Complete in Manifest.csv. |
