IP DATABASES

Patented IP geolocation databases you host yourself

BigDataCloud Flat Data brings our patented geolocation technology to your own infrastructure — unlimited local lookups in your internal systems, pipelines and air-gapped networks.

Flat Data isn't another repackaged IP list. It's built on our patented next-generation technology, designed around real network routing infrastructure rather than relying mainly on WHOIS or reverse DNS. Compact is built for local, city-level accuracy; Complete targets hyper-local, in-city accuracy on wired networks. Every dataset is updated daily, so the data you host stays current.

Why teams choose Flat Data

Patented next-generation geolocation

Flat Data is built on our patented next-generation approach to IP geolocation — a method that maps location from network routing infrastructure, not from reverse-DNS guesswork. Compact is built for local, city-level accuracy; Complete targets hyper-local, in-city accuracy on wired networks.

See the real service area, not a circle

Most offline databases give you a point and an accuracy radius. Flat Data shows the area a network actually serves, as a shape you can map, filter and reason about. You can tell at a glance whether an IP covers one suburb or a whole region.

Choose your accuracy, add network context

Compact gives you local, city-level accuracy. Complete gives you hyper-local accuracy within the city for wired networks, plus privacy-risk context. Need to know who runs a network and how it's routed? Add Network to Compact in one subscription that costs less than the two separately.

Updated daily

Every dataset is updated daily, so the data you host stays current. Refresh on whatever schedule suits you.

Same IP. Two very different answers.

Two maps of eastern Australia at the same scale for IP address 202.7.251.127. Left: a grey circle with a 500 km radius around Sydney, covering much of eastern New South Wales and the sea beside it. Right: the Flat Data confidence area, two narrow green strips along the coast, one from Wollongong through Sydney to Newcastle and one from the Coffs Harbour region north to the Gold Coast.

One IP address, one map scale, two answers. A radius-based lookup puts this Sydney address somewhere inside a 500 km circle. Flat Data shows the network's service area: two strips along the coast, from Wollongong to Newcastle and from the Coffs Harbour region to the Gold Coast.

Frequently asked questions

What is an IP geolocation database?
It's a dataset you download and host yourself, so you can look up IP addresses locally with no per-query fees, no network latency, and no external calls from air-gapped or restricted environments. Flat Data is built on BigDataCloud's patented next-generation geolocation technology, with Compact aimed at local city-level accuracy and Complete at hyper-local, in-city accuracy on wired networks.
What makes Flat Data different from other IP databases?
Two things. First, it's built on our patented next-generation approach, designed around network routing infrastructure rather than relying mainly on WHOIS or reverse DNS. Compact is built for local city-level accuracy; Complete targets hyper-local, in-city accuracy on wired networks. Second, instead of a single point with an accuracy radius, Flat Data shows the area a network actually serves, so you can see how far an IP's location really extends.
How does BigDataCloud compare with IPinfo?
IPinfo publicly describes active network probing as part of its methodology. Probing finds servers and routers that answer pings, but many mobile and home networks don't, so we combine patented router service-area mapping with location evidence from real users. See our full BigDataCloud vs IPinfo comparison.
Should I choose Compact or Complete?
Choose Compact if local, city-level accuracy covers your needs. Choose Complete if you need hyper-local accuracy within the city for wired networks, plus privacy-risk context for proxies, VPNs and Tor. Both are self-serve under the Flat Data Standard Licence, and both are built on the same patented technology, so you can start with Compact and step up later.
Can I combine Compact and Network?
Yes. You can subscribe to Compact and Network together at the combined price, which is less than subscribing to each separately. Each comes under the Flat Data Standard Licence. If you also need hyper-local accuracy and privacy-risk context, subscribe to Complete, under the same licence.
How often is the data updated?
Every day. Refresh on your own schedule.
How is Flat Data licensed?
Compact, Network and Complete are self-serve subscriptions under the Flat Data Standard Licence: internal use by one company (a single legal entity) and its employees. You can't use the data in products or services for others or share it outside your company, and your website must never show visitors their IP-derived location. Buying Compact and Network together is a pricing option, not a separate licence. For anything else, including other group companies, contractors, products, redistribution or OEM, contact us about a bespoke or OEM licence. Read the licence.
Where can I see pricing?
Compact, Network, Complete and the combined Compact + Network price are listed on our pricing page, and you can subscribe online. For bespoke or OEM licensing on any package, contact our sales team.
