Understand which domains to use and how endpoint URLs are structured across BigDataCloud's API packages.

API Domains

Two domains serve BigDataCloud APIs. Which one you use depends on your API package:

api.bigdatacloud.net

Free API Package

Recommended for Free API Package endpoints. No API key required for client-side endpoints.

api-bdc.net

All Other Packages

Recommended for IP Geolocation, Reverse Geocoding, Phone & Email, and Network Engineering packages. Requires an API key.

Domain separation is coming. We are planning to enforce domain separation in the future. We recommend new integrations use the correct domain from the start to avoid disruption.

Base URL Format

For paid API packages that require an API key: 

https://api-bdc.net/data/{endpoint}?key=YOUR_KEY&{parameters}

For free client-side endpoints (no API key required): 

https://api.bigdatacloud.net/data/{endpoint}?{parameters}

GraphQL Endpoints

GraphQL uses a different URL pattern. Send a POST request to the package-specific GraphQL endpoint: 

POST https://api-bdc.net/graphql/{package-name}

GraphQL is available for the following packages:

  • IP Geolocation
  • Reverse Geocoding
  • Phone & Email
  • Network Engineering
